Yarn– I used Bernat Super Value, Red Heart would be comparable.
Stitch Marker
Scissors
Buttons
Blunt Needle
Techniques:
Sc – Single Crochet- (insert hook into stitch, draw yarn back through, yarn over, draw through both loops on hook)
Hdc – Half Double Crochet- (Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, draw yarn through, yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook.)
Ext Sc – Extended Single Crochet- (Insert hook into stitch, draw yarn through, yarn over, pull through first loop on hook, yarn over, draw through both loops on hook.)
Sl St – Slip Stitch- (Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, draw yarn through stitch then through 1st loop on hook.)
Blo – Back Loop Only (Work only in the back loop of your stitch)
–Full Video Tutorial available–
PATTERN: Size 0-3 months
Size 0-3 months – Depending on your tension, this shoe should measure approximately 3 ½ “ or 9 cm. As you can see in the pictures below, the 1st measures 10 cm, however, after we work our 1st row of the upper portion of the shoes, in the blo, the sizing is now 9 cm. Your tension will make a difference in the pattern sizing. If you stitch tighter, I would move to a G hook instead of the F.
Round 1 of sole – Chain 9
- 2 sc into 2nd chain from the hook.
- sc into next 4
- hdc into next 2
- dc 7 times into last chain
-You will now be working on opposite side of your foundation chain-
- hdc in next 2 chains
- sc in next 4 chains
- 2 sc into last chain, slip to 1st sc made (join).
Round 2 of sole – Chain 2 (place marker)
- 2 hdc into same as join space
- hdc in next 8 stitches
- 2 hdc in next 5 stitches
- hdc in next 8
- 2 hdc in last stitch, join.
-You will have 30 total stitches after Round 2-
Round 3 of sole – Chain 1
- 2 sc in same as join space
- sc in next 11 stitches
- 2 sc in next st, *1 sc in nxt, 2 sc in next* Repeat ** 2 more times
- sc in next 10 st
- 2 sc in last stitch, join
-You will have 36 total stitches after Round 3-
This is a great pattern! I’m going to make all three sizes.
Thank you for your comment Jan! I hope you enjoyed making these -) ♥
Sad to realize that as I completed the sole- that is the end of the pattern here. 🙁 Since I am not on facebook, I can’t get it. I guess the lesson here is look before i leap
Linda, many of my patterns on my site have multiple pages. Please look below the pattern text on the 1st page of the pattern to find the page numbers.
I’m sorry for the inconvenience =(
Hello! Thank you for this lovely pattern which I have just come across. I am making the 12-18 month size but have found that the number of stitches mentioned in rounds 3 and 4 is incorrect, as doing a sc into 15 stitches at the beginning and the end of the round requires there to be 49 stitches rather than the 48 stitches listed in round 2. Comparing the patterns for the first two sizes of the pattern I see that you used a combination of 11 sc and then 10 sc in rounds 3 and 4 for the first size and a combination of 13 sc and then 14 sc in rounds 3 and 4 for the second size, so it seems that 15 sc at both ends of the round for the large size is indeed a misprint and should perhaps be a combination of 14 sc and then 15 sc or 15 sc and then 14 sc – it doesn’t matter which although I think using 14 followed by 15 for a left shoe and 15 followed by 14 for a right shoe curves it around slightly better perhaps. Anyhow, thanks again for the pattern which I am making in red – super cute for a little girl.
Hi Julie! Thank you for your feedback! I believe this is the one I found the error on and corrected in the video, I thought I had corrected in the written as well. I will have to get back in and rework it up so I can make corrections accordingly (It’s been a bit since I’ve worked up a pair myself) =D Thank you so much again!
I’m so sorry – I found it!
So glad you found it =) Thank you Angelan!
Hello! Just found this cute pattern, but it doesn’t include instructions for the top of the bootie, only for the sole. Is there a link or website where can I find the entire pattern? Thank you!
Lovely little baby shoes. Thank you so much for the patternand for the very detailed, easy to understand video.
You are very kind.
Thank you so much for your sweet comment Christine! Have a wonderful evening!
Where is the PDF for 6 to 12 months please
Forgive my late reply Madelein! If you scroll below the pattern text on the page, you will see page numbers. There are multiple pages for this pattern. I do have a pdf copy available for free via the YarnWars Facebook group located in the group’s Files tab at: http://www.facebook.com/groups/yarnwars Thanks so much for your interest in my pattern!
Is there a pattern for 3-6 months in the Baby’s 1st Crochet Mary Jane Booties?
There is not specifically Nicole, no, but there is only like 1/3 of an inch difference, I just suggest moving up a hook size on the size smaller or down a hook size on the size larger to achieve that size. It is such a slight difference in the size according to charts.
Is there any way I can get a copy of the PDF for the Mary Jane’s? I usually crochet when sitting on my school bus in between my routes. Having the written pattern would help tremendously. Thanks.
Sent! Please forgive my late reply Sheila ♥
Hello, thank you for sharing these patterns for these adorable baby booties. However, I am confused in round 3 of sole in the 0-3 months section. It states that there will be a total of 36 stitches, but when you count ALL the stitches in the instructions, they equal 40. Am I misunderstanding a certain step? Thank you for your help.
Angela, I am so sorry I am just seeing these comments. I have had quite a bit going on in my life and just getting in here sadly.
I’m hoping the video will clear up this section for you: https://youtu.be/L4-0hjB-Ee4
Hello! I want to say thank you for sharing this pattern! I have been crocheting simple things such as scarves and beanies for a long time but only began crocheting baby booties. The other patterns I found were perfect for DOLL feet. So I was excited when your pattern actually fit real babies. And I found your pattern instructions REALLY easy for follow. Thank you again!
Thank you for the pattern. You made it so easy to follow. I’m going to try making them for NICU babies.
Awww… that is wonderful Kathy! Thank you for your kind comment ♥
Loving this pattern I’m new to crochet how can I make it larger for a toddler
Hi Sue! Currently I just have the sizes 0-3 mo, 6-9 mo & 12-18 mths. How much larger were you looking for? Are you in the YarnWars Facebook group? If so, please pm me what you are looking for size wise and I will see what I can do. =) If not, our group is at: http://www.facebook.com/groups/yarnwars.
Thanks!
Thank you for the video! I was wondering if you have video on YouTube for the left shoe? I do better with visual guides. If not I’ll do my best with the pattern! If you could email my reply that would be great-chrispaskett@yahoo.com. Thank you! Crystal Paskett
Hi Crystal! I’m sorry, I do not, but the left shoe is exactly the same as the right shoe, the only difference is where you slip stitch to in the end to place your strap. I believe I explain it in the video. I completely understand working something visually as well… this part of it is very simple though as the strap start is the only difference. Thanks so much!
Just want you to know that your tutorial is awesome. I’m new at crochet, but was able to follow your tutorial perfectly. Since then I’ve made several pairs of these just because they are so cute. Thanks!!
Awww… Thank you so much Kat! I am so glad to hear you are enjoying making them =)
I like these booties and your instruction are really helpfull…thank u soo much for patter n. <3 booties
Where is written pattern for 6_9 month baby?
I really want to make 🙂
Pdf version?
Hi Baibo! All of the downloadable / printable pdf files are housed in our group on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/groups/yarnwars
I’m afraid with host limitations, my website can’t handle all of the downloads at this time. You can come by the group, all of our pdf patterns are located in the groups Files tab just below the timeline photo.
Thank you! =)
I’m sorry… I got my responses backwards Baibo. We do have all of our written patterns available on YarnWars.com for you to work along with, but the actual pdf files are located in the YarnWars Facebook group. 😉
These are too cute and easy!! Thank you. My new granddaughter is going to. Love these.
Awww… I’m so glad! Thanks so much for your kind feedback Doria <3
hello..can i ask for the written pattern for 9-12 mos? 🙂 thanks
Hi Frena! I don’t currently have a specific for the 9-12 month, you are looking at a size of just under 5″ (approx 4.7 – 4.8″)- The 6-9 mth pattern is for up to 4 1/2″ when worked in f hook. The 6-9 mth pattern should work well for up to 12 mth if you move up to a G hook. If you generally crochet tighter stitches, I would suggest maybe dropping to an f hook and work the 12-18 mth to achieve that size. If you make sure to measure before continuing past the sole, you will be fine =) Please let me know if this helps. The pattern is available here on the website, it is available in a printable pdf in our facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/groups/yarnwars located in the Files tab, and the size 6-9 video walkthrough is now also available on our channel at: https://youtu.be/vtivpWpl8ME .
Thanks so much Frena and have a wonderful day!
I just made your booties tonight for my neice’s baby due in mid November, and I was so impressed I wrote a blog about it. LOL, thank you for your clear instructions and easy to follow lesson on you tube!
Kim in Australia
You’re the sweetest Kim! ???? Thanks so much for your super kind feedback ❤

Thank you for your feedback Susan and your interest in my pattern ❤
Thank you for this great pattern, it works up so quickly too. I love it.
Thank you for your feedback Anabel =) I’m glad you enjoyed the pattern!
I haven’t crochet in years, that was my Mother’s job at 94, she tackled it all ! Now that she’s gone, the hook has been passed to me ! Watching your video, was like having a good friend helping me make something for my new born graND daughter 🙂
Thank you so much !
You are too sweet Darlene ???? Thank you for your kind comment ????
Thank you so much for this adorable pattern. I have a granddaughter due this June. Saw your video too, very well done and easy to follow. My only problem is not been able to keep up. And scrolling back and forth on my phone is frustrating. Can I please have a PDF version? My email diana6504@gmail.com.
Sincerely,
Diana
Thank you for your kind feedback! Congratulations on the new granddaughter! ????
Thank you! Finally. This an easily followed pattern, and makes a beautiful bootie. And a big thank you for having newborn size and up. My new 5 week old granddaughter is small (by today’s standard), and we cannot keep socks on her little feet; this pattern fits. Great easily followed video.
Awww.. I’m so glad to hear this Charissa ???? Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your kind feedback! I’m really glad you enjoyed the pattern!
I cab’t wait to try this pattern – thanks for sharing
Thanks Theresa! I hope you will share with us over on the YarnWars Facebook group if you make some =) Would love to see them! =)
Thank you for the pattern turned out lovely so easy to follow I’ve made 5 pairs nos I seem to be hooked
Julie
Awesome Julie! Thanks for the kind words =)
Thank you so much for the video! This is my first pair of baby booties for a new granddaughter coming this May and, while they didn’t come out exactly like yours, they look pretty close! Your instructions were very easy to follow. I do always seem to have trouble when getting to end of each “row” and where to connect to the initial chained stitches! I think my dual colored baby yarn didn’t help – perhaps if I used a little thicker, one color yarn I would be better able to see the stitches! Thank you again!
You’re so welcome Suzanne! I’m glad you like them =) Thanks so much for your kind feedback & CONGRATULATIONS on your soon to be grandbaby!!
thank u
Thank you! =)
I screwed up on my first few times, but once I got the hang on not crocheting too tightly it turned out beautifully! I simply didn’t get the right shape at first, so if your getting this too, try crocheting extreemly loosly!
Thanks so much for the great video! I tried a few other patterns but just didn’t really understand how to get the sole right, this video made it al so clear! Thanks!
So glad everything worked out ok for you Silvy! Thanks for your feedback! ????
Love the pattern. Worked up beautifully!
Thank you Sheila! Glad this worked out well for you =)
I have SCOURED the web for a good, dependable and CUTE crochet mary jane pattern and I am let down every time EXCEPT this time!!! Thank you SO MUCH! This was very easy to read. I started with a size 4 yarn and made the perfect 0-3 month booties. Then I went to get my pink yarn and was dismayed that I had picked up a size 3 yarn on accident but I needed to get them done. So I just used an H hook with the 6-9 month pattern and it makes the *perfect* size Newborn shoe! I’m honestly surprised this pattern is free, the shoes are beautiful and the pattern was written in such a clear, concise manner and that’s not usually true of free patterns. Thanks again!
You are too sweet with your comment Diane! Thanks so much for the feedback and thanks for taking the time to let me know how this pattern worked for you =)
It would be nice to have a PDF for free patterns I can’t crochet fast enough to leave my iPad on while I do them PLEASE
Hi Dorothy! I will send a copy of the pdf to your email… however if you would like to join us in our YarnWars Facebook Group, you can go to http://www.facebook.com/groups/yarnwars , click on the Files tab just below the timeline photo, and you will find all of our patterns in pdf form, along with these Baby’s First Mary Jane Booties.
Again… I’m sending to your email now! Have a wonderful evening and than you for your interest in my pattern! ~Colleen
Tried to subscribe but unable to be successful. Message kept saying an error had been made.
Thank you Vera for letting me know. I will see what is going on right away!
Hi, I am working on this pattern but I am confused on upper shoe pattern round 3 #2 and getting the proper amount of stitches here but there is not total on this one. I did follow how to do the ext sc. Not sure what I am doing wrong here? TR
Tammy, please forgive me. Your comment is coming up as being posted 8-22, but I am just getting alerted of it! Can you please tell me if you have this figured out already, and if not, I will be happy to help you via yarnwars@gmail.com. You can email me and it might be a little easier to walk you through that way =)
Again, so so sorry for getting back with you so late!
Thank you for the pattern, I do appreciate it…
You are so welcome Barbara! Thank you for your interest in the pattern =D
Perhaps I don’t understand…Could you send it to my email address? I tried following the video for the baby mary jane bootie tutorial, I believe having the pattern and watching the tutorial together will help. You state in the video ” you will be making many of these booties.” I really want to make the booties, please forgive me if I quoted incorrectly, thank you!
No worries =) I will send it to you now! Have a great night Barbara!
I guess free doesn’t mean free! I went to redheart.com and found what I was looking for and it was really free!!!
Barbara, I’m not sure what you are talking about, you are commenting on the pattern page itself. Are you not seeing the pattern? http://www.yarnwars.com/free-patterns-created-yarnwars/free-babys-first-crochet-mary-jane-booties-pattern/ If you are looking for a pdf jfor the baby booties pattern, you have to go to the group page to download it, and STILL, that is free =), but I don’t think it could get any more free than I’ve made it available right on the page you commented on. Let me know if maybe I’m misunderstanding something here.
How can I print pattern for Baby’s 1st Mary Jane booties?
Hi Barbara! The pdf pattern for the Baby 1st Mary Jane Booties can be found in the “Files” tab within the YarnWars Facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/groups/yarnwars
Unfortunately, the pdf is not available here at the website as I’m quite limited on bandwidth.
Loved make the shoes, your direction are so easy to follow thanks. I was just wondering how could I change the size to 6-9 months plz
Hi Meg! I do have the 6-9 month written pattern, you just need to click on page 2 of the pattern at the following link: http://www.yarnwars.com/free-patterns-created-yarnwars/free-babys-first-crochet-mary-jane-booties-pattern/ or you can download the pdf pattern in the Files tab in our YarnWars Group =D

I love your little booties!!! would do you have a written tutorial in spanish???
Rebecca, I’m so sorry, I do not, however, you are welcome to ask in the YarnWars Facebook Group if anyone would be interested in translating it
Thank you for this darling little pattern just beautiful
Thank you Margaret! That’s so sweet of you =)
Loved this pattern! Thank you!
Thank you Michelle =)
I also am a new crocheted. I just started in October 2014. I have to start and stop your videos numerous times before I’m done. I also tend to crochet my stitches too tight. I used a g hook and my finished booties are about 3 1/2 inches long. They are really cute. They came better than I expected. Thanks so much for this pattern. Jan
I’m so glad they worked out well for you Jan! I think that is a natural thing to want to stitch tighter with some projects. I’ve done so many amigurumis that I have a hard time “loosening up!” now, anytime I am working on a smaller project, I have to keep reminding myself =D Thank you so much for your feedback!
As just a basic crocheter i am so happy to find a lovely shoe patter explained in the fantasic way you have i made them in no time at all thankyou
Thank you so much for your kind words CWhite =) I’m glad that everything went so smoothly for you =)
